Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research (SIAF)

The Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research (SIAF) was founded in its actual form in 1988 by the medical department of the foundation Swiss Research Institute for High Mountain Climate and Medicine Davos (SFI). Here, about 45 biologists, biochemists, and physicians conduct research in the fields of allergology and asthma.

SIAF is concentrating on applied science and is investigating the immunological basis of allergic diseases and asthma with the aim of developing new preventive and curative treatments for affected patients.

Research is also being conducted in the field of personalised medicine. The aim is to develop treatments tailored to the individual needs of patients, thus focusing on patient-relevant research.

Despite its small size, SIAF’s studies are cited more than 40’000 times. SIAF has been affiliated with the University of Zurich since 1996 and has been a member of the Life Science Zurich Graduate School, a joint educational project of the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich, since 2007.
