Physical Meteorological Observatory Davos (PMOD/WRC)

The Physical Meteorological Observatory Davos (PMOD) has been researching solar radiation and its influence on the Earth's climate since 1907. In 1971, the PMOD was also designated a World Radiation Centre (WRC) by the World Meteorological Organization.

Today, the World Radiation Centre includes four sections: Solar radiometry, infrared radiometry, atmospheric opacity measurements and the UV calibration centre. All sections focus on the measurement of solar radiation.

As an international centre for calibration of meteorologic radiation measuring instruments, PMOD/WCR is developing new proceedings as well as radiation measuring tools to be used on the ground as well as in space. Furthermore, the measured data is analysed at the PMOD and used, for example, for research purposes on climate change.
